I fear for our democratic republic, the United States of America, in so many areas. However, I would like to go back to 1787. In that year, 55 of our founding fathers spent from 25 May to 17 September composing the Constitution of the United States. Each year we celebrate this document on 17 September, Constitution Day, This year the 17″ was this past Wednesday. Back in 1787, when Elizabeth Willing Powel asked Benjamin Franklin,”Well, Doctor, what have we got, a monarchy or a republic?”, His reply was “A republic, if you can keep it.”
This present administration, in my opinion, is working toward that end by putting its citizens first.
However, in retrospect, what country has opened its borders to let everyone in without going through a vetting process before entering it illegally? What country has put illegal people before its citizenry?
None, and this was not the vision of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, Robert Morris, and the other signers of this great document.
The problem of illegal people in our country should not be a Democrat or Republican political issue.
It is an American issue. Illegal immigrants should not be used as puppets to work for lower wages, or to fill up states with them to change the political “color” of the state toward one particular party. They have no legal rights under the laws of this land. Thankfully, the President has ordered that the 2030 census should not include any illegal immigrants in any state and the census should include a question about immigration status.
To quote Alexander Hamilton, “If it be asked what is the most sacred duty and the greatest source of our security in a Republic? The answer would be, an inviolable (not to divert from) respect for the Constitution and laws.”
The 250* anniversary of our great country is next year. May the vision of our founding fathers return and prosper.
