To start: A quote from the late David Horowitz: “The larger the government, the smaller the man;, and the smaller the government, the larger the man.”
This seemed to fit right in with the interesting article that I read in the April 2-8 issue of the Epoch Times. It contained an excerpt from the speech of the 30″ president of the United States on his inauguration in 1925. See if you agree.
His approach to government? A limited government emphasizing efficiency, restraint, and following the Constitution. His common sense principle to be diligent in handing other people’s money, it is not the government’s money, it’s the people’s and the government should treat it with utmost respect.
An abbreviated version of his “common sense” principles are as follows:
PRINCIPLE NO. 1– Reduce Government Waste to benefit the people.
PRINCIPLE NO. 2–Keep Taxes Low by Controlling Government Spending.
PRINCIPLE NO. 3 – High Taxes Hurt Economic Growth.
PRINCIPLE NO. 4 Avoid Envy and Redistribution.
PRINCIPLE NO. 5-Property Rights are Essential for Liberty.
The President: Calvin Coolidge, also known as “Silent Cal”
In the final paragraph, the author, Lawrence W. Reed wrote the following:” Calvin Coolidge remains the only president of the United States in the past 200 years to leave the federal government smaller than the day he took the job. Following these five simple but profound principles, how could it have been otherwise?”
I would like to see history repeat itself during the presidency of Donald J. Trump. How about you?
